The beginning of a new year is fast approaching and so I thought it appropriate to provide you with a list of the most important international book festivals from around the globe for 2011. A great deal of the list came from here, but I added a couple of my own, plus links where I could. This list focuses on giving you a glimpse of worldwide cities which host major book festivals but the UK in particular has a vast array of literary festivals taking place throughout the year so check out the UK festivals too.

The 2010 Edinburgh International Book Festival
The largest book festival is almost upon us. Yes, the Edinburgh International Book Festival is just around the corner running from 14-30 August 2010 in the Charlotte Square Gardens, Edinburgh. This year the festival will focus on America and both its established and new literary talents. Some of the guests include; Joyce Carol Oates, Irene Sabatini, Lionel Shriver, Amy Bloom, David Vann, Willy Vlautin, Leanne Shapton, Simon Rich and Adam Ross. Have a look at the full list of writers that will be at this year’s festival here.
The 2010 program pdf is very thorough in explaining what exactly will be happening at the festival this year. It provides a detailed line-up for each day of the festival. If you are interested, I recommend downloading the program. I wanted to give you all the details here but the pdf is 80 pages long so loads of info there!
A fantastic first for this festival is the launch of the Readers’ First Book Award. This award sees readers voting for their favourite nominee of which there are 45 with debut works in the adult programme. Readers can vote for a winner on the official website until 30 September 2010. Here are the nominees for the Readers’ First Book Award:
